Leica has announced another Q3 full-frame camera, the Q3 43, with a not-so-subtle change that could make a difference for those who know what they want from their photography. As its name implies, the most noticeable update is the switch to a 43mm f/2 fixed focal length lens, which gives the camera a slightly different feel compared to the wider 28mm lens that comes with the original Q3.
But why a 43mm? Leica says 43mm brings you closer to a natural field of view and is more akin to how the human eye sees. This makes it an interesting alternative fit to the original Q3 when it comes to taking street photography, where capturing candid moments with a realistic perspective can make a big difference to the end product.
That said, apart from the lens everything else from the original Q3’s body remains unchanged – which still remains minimal and classic. Although there’s the new grey leatherette finish and subtle engraving on the hot shoe that set it apart from the Q3 with the 28mm lens. With a 43mm lens, this allows the new Q3’s digital zoom function to “crop” your shots to mimic longer focal lengths, going up to 150mm as compared to 90mm on the older Q3.
In terms of specs, the Q3 43 keeps most of the same specs as the original Q3 too. This includes the 60MP full-frame sensor and 8K video capabilities.
The Leica Q3 43 is now available for S$9,990 (the Q3 now retails for S$9,600) at all Leica Stores including its online shop (click here to buy)
