Canon Announces New EF-M 11-22mm f/4-5.6 IS STM Lens & Firmware Update for EOS M Camera
Canon is announcing a new 11-22mm f/4-5.6 IS STM lens for the EOS M system, which brings the total number of native lenses to three. There will also be a firmware upgrade for the EOS M camera which promises to improve the auto-focus system, with an improved AF speed of up to 2.3x.
Canon has just announced a brand new lens for the EOS system, as well as a firmware update for the EOS M camera.
The wide-angle EF-M 11-22mm f/4-5.6 IS STM lens now makes three lenses in the EOS M family, the other two of which are a 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM lens and a pancake 22mm f/2 STM lens. With the EF-M mount's 1.6x crop, the new 11-22mm lens has a 35mm equivalent of approximately 17.6-35mm. The new EF-M 11-22mm f/4-5.6 IS STM lens will be available late July, with exact availability and pricing announced at a later date.
Canon is also releasing a firmware update for the EOS M, which promises to boost the auto-focus performance, with an improved AF speed of up to 2.3x. When we first reviewed the Canon EOS M, its sluggish AF was the main reason we didn't recommend it (besides the low battery life). Hopefully the new firmware will bring the M up to speed.
The firmware update for EOS M will be available as a complimentary download at the Canon website by end of June.
