Last year saw the launch of the Sony Reon Pocket 5, which used a thermo-module and heat dissipation fan to keep us both warm and cool. This year, the Reon Pocket Pro has arrived to do the same job.

And it couldn't arrive at a more suitable time. According to the Meteorological Service Singapore (MSS), 2024 saw the local weather hit many low points, including dry spells, soaring temperatures, and less rain than usual. Even this month offers no respite with the MSS forecasting that the last two weeks of May will have daily maximum temperatures around 34℃ on most days, even with rain.

Sony says that this new Reon Pocket Pro is the first to feature two independent thermo-modules along with a newly developed heat-dissipating fan that delivers approximately twice the airflow of the Reon Pocket 5.

It also has an upgraded heat-dissipation mechanism that provides twice the cooling area when compared to its predecessor. In total, the Reon Pocket Pro offers up to twice the heat-absorbing performance, and an extended operating time up to twice as long when compared to the Reon Pocket 5.

In terms of battery life, you can use the Reon Pocket Pro in a Smart Cool mode or normal Cool mode.

When in Smart Cool mode, the integration of sensors and an algorithm allows the device to automatically adjust the level of cooling based on the user's behaviour, their body temperature and humidity, and the temperature and humidity of their surroundings, and lasts for up to 15 hours. Note that like the Reon Pocket 5, this new model can also keep you warm, but the information we've so far received all centres around its cooling abilities, which is probably more relevant in this region of use.

When used in Cool mode at level one, the upgraded battery provides up to 34 hours of use, offering up to twice the operating time of the Reon Pocket 5, which had a rated battery life of up to 10 hours.

Sony says that the design of the main unit has been refined, with the cooling/warming area approximately twice the size of the previous model. Additionally, the unit is now curved at the bottom to better conform to the user's body shape, providing improved comfort and efficiency. A new silicone extension has also been added to the tip of the band to enhance comfort and fit. Finally, the operating noise has been reduced, making the device 50% quieter than previous models.
