You'll soon be able to open your Samsung fridge with just your voice

All that's left for Samsung to do is to create a robot that will do all our chores.

Home appliances have gotten smarter and smarter over the years, and Samsung is taking it to the next level soon. At IFA 2024, we managed to stop by Samsung's booth and check out the new technologies that the Korean tech giant will be bringing to its smart home appliances in the near future.

One of the most impressive and useful features would be to use Bixby to open the doors for 2024 refrigerators that support the Family Hub touchscreen panel. With a simple "open the refrigerator door", the doors swing open automatically. While this might ostensibly seem like a feature targeted at the lazy folks amongst us, it's quite handy for people who might be cooking and have their hands dirty, but require something in the fridge.

For refrigerators with Family Hub that were launched after 2022, there's a new wallpaper function that uses generative AI to create custom wallpapers for each user's own Family Hub screen.

We also got to check out one of Samsung's built-in oven offerings that has a Smart Oven Camera that can live stream video to a smartphone so that users can quickly check on meals as they cook inside without having to open the oven door and let the heat escape.

Last but not least, we also managed to get a short hands-on with the new Bespoke AI Laundry Combo washer and dryer that comes with a large touchscreen panel that connects with other Smart Things home appliances and can control them as needed. Want to turn the TV off or turn the air conditioner on? You'll be able to do that directly from the washing machine, whether it's from the touchscreen, or via a voice command to Bixby.

And if you're prone to forgetting about your laundry, the Bespoke AI Laundry Combo's door will automatically open at the end of a wash or dry cycle to allow moisture to escape and keep laundry fresh.
