Maybe you're getting old or perhaps you blasted music too loudly when you were young, but hearing loss is an issue that affects many around world. In fact, the World Health Organization estimates that more than 1.5 billion people today suffer from some extent of hearing loss, and many go undiagnosed because it's only a mild or moderate form of hearing loss.
For these people, getting hearing aids might seem like overkill, but the Nuance Audio OTC Hearing Aid Glasses might just be the solution. These glasses look and work just like regular glasses, with the ability to fit prescription lenses into the frames, but the frame is where the magic happens. With beamforming microphones built in, the Nuance Audio glasses are able to pick up and tune into conversations or the wearer's surroundings. This is then transmitted to the wearer via the speakers on the frame and arms of the glasses.
Most of the functionality is handled through a companion app, which provides features like audio presets, volume control and more. Depending on whether you're looking to hear (or not) background noise, you will also be able to choose between lowered, standard and heightened background noise options.
There are also frontal and all-around sound modes, depending on whether you want to concentrate on a conversation happening in front of you or on the surrounding environment. You can even choose to cancel out your own voice so you can hear others more clearly.
The glasses come with a wireless charging pad and carrying case, and a remote control for volume control and audio mode switching is available as a separate purchase. The Nuance Audio OTC Hearing Glasses are currently undergoing FDA trials in the US, and the company is planning for a worldwide launch after that. Prices have yet to be determined.
