LG has announced plans to bring its LG ThinQ UP brand of appliances to the United States and then the rest of the world from March 2023.

The appliances, including refrigerators, washers, dryers, oven ranges, and dishwashers, allow users to add features and functionality to them through software updates and via the LG ThinQ app. This idea first appeared during CES 2022 under the concept of Evolving Appliances For You.

For example, a Laundry Saver Mode can be applied to dryer models with ThinQ UP. Useful for times when you can’t unload the dryer right away, this mode keeps the drum tumbling after the cycle has finished (and until the dryer door is opened) to help prevent wrinkles and odours. Another feature on offer is Improved Nighttime Brightness Control for refrigerators with ThinQ UP, which makes the fridges’ interior lighting softer at night so as not to ‘blind’ users when they open the door.

According to the company, ThinQ UP features will be available on a limited number of ThinQ UP devices sold in the United States after the fourth quarter of 2022.

In a report in The Korea Herald, the first destinations will include countries like the US with higher app download numbers, LG said, because the app is essential to connect and upgrade appliances and maximise the consumer experience.
