Intel just announced a Face ID-like authentication solution for smart locks, access control, point-of-sale, ATMs and kiosks.
Dubbed RealSense ID, it is an on-device solution that uses an active depth sensor, a specialised neural network, a dedicated system-on-chip and embedded secure element for accurate facial authentication. Similar to Apple's Face ID technology, RealSense ID will adapt to users over time. It also works in diffrent lighting conditions for users with varying heights or complexions.
Intel claims RealSense ID can protect against false entry attempts with the built-in anti-spoofting technology. It is stated to have one-in-1-million false acceptance rate. In addition, RealSense ID is only activated through user awareness and will not work unless prompted by a pre-registered user.
