If you have the Dirigera smart home hub from Ikea at home, well it just got better thanks to the addition of Matter support.

Matter is a home automation standard that allows different devices and ecosystems to play together. It lets you buy any device, and it will be compatible with smart home and voice services such as Amazon Alexa, Apple Siri, and Google Assistant, so you can use your preferred voice assistant or platform to control it. It uses Wi-Fi and Bluetooth LE for device setup.

For example, you can buy a Matter-supported smart bulb and set it up to work with Amazon’s Alexa, Apple’s HomeKit, or Google’s Assistant. You can dim the lights, raise your blinds, and listen to some music - all without having to get out of bed or having to rewire your home.

This is important as it adds real home hub capabilities to the Dirigera, allowing users to communicate to all of their smart home devices seamlessly.

Damir Smrkovic, Platform and Technology leader at IKEA of Sweden, said:

With the introduction of Matter support on Dirigera, we are taking a significant step towards creating a more seamless and interoperable smart home experience. Users no longer need to worry about compatibility – everything will just work together, easily and efficiently.

Ikea added that Matter support for the Dirigera hub will be available at all locations where it is sold and will support all Ikea products within lighting, sound, air purification, remote controllers, and sensors so users can create a connected home. For example, you can save your favourite combination of lighting and music as a 'Scene' in the app and trigger it with schedules or manually with a shortcut button or the app itself.
