If you’ve ever wanted to undo an email that’s gone out, Google put up a very handy guide for Gmail users to find that button on desktop and mobile versions of the email app.

But before that, you might also want to extend your undo send window for more wiggle room.

Extend undo send emails window

Gmail lets you extend the undo period up to 30 seconds. You must use a desktop (PC, laptop, Mac) to configure it first.

Simply open Gmail and enter Settings via the gear icon. Inside the “See All Settings” oblong button is Undo Send. Find “Send cancellation period”, and click into the dropdown menu and select your desired time (up to 30 seconds). Don’t forget to hit save at the bottom!

The option appears only after you’ve sent out an email via the Gmail app (iOS, Android). After you send and email (and immediately regret doing so), quickly look for the Undo button at the bottom of your screen. Pressing it will also allow you to make any adjustments in a draft.

We recommend extending your undo window because it makes the undo notification stay on-screen longer.

Similar to the mobile version, a “Message sent” notification will pop up on the bottom left of the screen after firing off an email. The “Undo” button sits in the middle of that bar. Also, extending the undo window helps to keep that notification up for longer.

This undo feature works on enterprise (Google Workspace) and personal Gmail accounts. So, you can minimise any room for error regardless of your Gmail version.
