Dyson has announced the Cyclone V10 cordless vacuum. The Cyclone V10 has been built to be more powerful and run for a longer period on a single charge.
The Cyclone V10 features the new digital motor V10, which can spin at up to 125,000 rpm. That gives the Cyclone V10 immense suction power. The bin assembly has been rotated 90 degrees from the previous design, resulting in a linear airflow path. Dyson says this improves the suction by 20% compared to the Dyson V8 cord-free vacuum cleaner.
Battery life has also been improved. Compared to the V8, which could vacuum up to 40 minutes on a single charge, the V10 can run up to 60 minutes.
Dyson is so confident about its technologies in the cordless V10 that it will stop developing corded vacuums.
I had the chance to play with a Cyclone V10 for a short time. The first thing I have to say that is that with the bin redesign, the V10 really looks like a big gun. The acoustics have been redesigned, so it sounds different compared to the V8, which I own. It also feels more powerful than the V8, almost like it’s clamping onto the floor.
There are some improvements that make it an easier to use machine. The bin is 40% larger, so you can procrastinate longer before emptying out. It’s also easier to release the bin now; you release it via a catch, instead of having to pull the main body upwards.
The two filters on the V8 have been combined into one, so you only have to clean one. If you always forget to clean the filters, there’s now an indicator to alert you when the filter needs cleaning. The new filter unit can capture 99.7% of allergens as small as 0.3 microns. There’s also a new indicator to alert you if the vacuum is choked.
The Cyclone V10 starts from US$499.99 to US$699.99 in the US, depending on the attachments you get. Local availability and price has yet to be announced.
