We’re still a decade away from the completion of Changi Airport’s Terminal 5, but the public can now get a glimpse of what to expect at T5 In the Making, a new exhibition that traces the airport’s past and lays out what the new terminal will come to be.
The self-guided exhibition, jointly organised by the Ministry of Transport, Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) and Changi Airport Group, will feature five zones that visitors can experience.
The exhibition will cover how Singapore’s premier airport moved from Paya Lebar to Changi, and the milestones that lead to today’s Changi Airport. It’ll then showcase how T5 was envisioned and designed, as well as a preview of the potential technologies that’ll be implemented to meet the challenges of a high foot-traffic terminal, which include robotic arms for baggage handling and autonomous wheelchairs for better accessibility.
Visitors going through Zone 1 will be greeted with a 2.7m rotating globe.
At Zone 4, which features potential tech to be implemented at T5, visitors will a humanoid robot assistant.
The exhibition will end off with an AI-powered interactive mural that will allow visitors to share what they personally envision Terminal 5 to be, as well as a scale model of the terminal.
Exhibition goers will also be given a ‘boarding pass’ personalised with their name and date of their visit, which also acts as a stamp rally card.
Visitors will be issued personalised boarding passes, which you can flash at certain outlets at Changi Airports for deals.
Visitors can also expect to get certain deals out of their attendance; this includes discounts at various F&B outlets in the airport as well as the Gift by Changi Airport shop through flashing your T5 In the Making boarding pass. Promo codes for iShopChangi and Changi Recommends will also be sent via email after booking an exhibition slot.
The exhibition is set to last from 6 January to March of this year, and is situated at Terminal 3, Level 1 Arrival Hall, open from 10am to 8pm daily (with last entry at 7.15pm). Admission is free, and although walk-ins are accepted, they’re subject to availability, so your best bet on getting in is to register for tickets, which you can do on Changi Airport’s website here. You’ll also be able to find the full list of deals in the same site, under the ‘Visiting Changi’ tab.
