Qualcomm Technologies and automotive brand Renault Group officially announced their partnership extension earlier this week (8 November 2022). The renewed agreement will see Qualcomm’s software-defined vehicle (SDV) platform built into Renault electric vehicles from 2026 onwards.
According to their official statement, the extended SDV platform includes things like a new generation of Snapdragon Digital Chassis, vehicle cockpits powered by the Android operating system, an advanced driver assistance (ADAS) system, enhancements to body, chassis, telematics, connectivity, the power line communications (PLC), and enhanced cybersecurity for its physical computing unit (PCU).
Qualcomm will also invest in Renault’s electric and software company Ampere, but its statement does not disclose the amount.
Renault has been working with Qualcomm since 2018, having featured Snapdragon Cockpit Platforms in the Renault Magane E-Tech Electric’s multimedia system.
