Think a Tesla Model S P100D is quick? It has got nothing on this, NextEV's new NIO EP9 electric supercar.

NextEV is an electric car company from China, and it has vast experience in fast electric cars thanks to its involvement in the Formula E series.

The NIO EP9 is the company's first electric supercar and it's a proper beast. Its looks are somewhat unimaginative, but power output is suitably impressive.

The NIO EP9 serves up a megawatt of power or the equivalent of 1,341hp. That's more than what the finest thoroughbreds from McLaren and Ferrari can muster.

0-100km/h is dealt with in 2.7 seconds, and 200km/h will appear on the speedometer is just a shade over 7 seconds. Top speed is about 313km/h.

But more impressively, NextEV says the car can reach a full charge in just 45 minutes. Range is a not too shabby 420km, enough to circle around our island a couple of times.

To prove its chops, the NIO EP9 has already claimed the title of the fastest electric car around the famous Nürburging  circuit, clocking in at 7 minutes and 5 seconds and beating the old record by  17 seconds.

No word yet on pricing nor availability, but don't expect it to come cheap.
