At the Baidu World Conference in Beijing, NVIDIA CEO Jen-Hsun Huang took to the stage to announce that his company will team up with Baidu to develop an artificial intelligence platform for self-driving cars.
The partnership will see Baidu make use of its cloud platform and mapping technologies, while NVIDIA will contribute its self-driving computing platform.
At CES 2016 earlier this year, NVIDIA launched its new Drive PX 2 "in-car AI supercomputer".
The Drive PX 2 features two next-generation Tegra processors and two Pascal GPUs to provide over 8 teraflops of computing power, allowing it to deliver 24 trillion deep learning operations per second.
Together with video cameras, lidar, radar and ultrasonic sensors, the Drive PX 2 will be able to quickly make sense of a car's surroundings and navigate it safely.
In addition, Baidu also has just announced that it has received permits to test its self-driving cars in California.
Baidu has a team of about 100 engineers in Silicon Valley, working on self-driving cars.
