Hyundai has announced the launch of its second made in Singapore electric vehicle (EV) sedan, the Ioniq 6 from the HMGICS (Hyundai Motor Group Innovation Centre in Singapore) facility in Jurong.

Following the launch of the made in Singapore Ioniq 5 and the Ioniq 5 robotaxi, the Ioniq 6 is the latest EV production model to take advantage of Hyundai's proprietary automated cell-based production platform used at HMGICS.

Like the Ioniq 5, the Ioniq 6 will be available in COE Cat A and Cat B variants and four different trim levels.

These are the Inspiration (77 kWh, Cat B), Prestige (77 kWh, Cat B), Prestige (53 kWh, Cat A), and Exclusive (53 kWh, Cat A).

When our editor took the Ioniq 5 for a test drive, while he liked the looks, he felt a little let-down by its range. The model he drove had a 58kWh battery and a WLTP range that Hyundai stated was good for up to 384km. WLTP range is the maximum distance an EV will travel on a single charge. During his test drive, on a 78% charge, he managed 267km achieving an average energy consumption figure of 15.4kWh/100km and felt that any more than 300km between charges would be a risk.

The Ioniq 6 has increased range compared to its predecessor, with Hyundai saying that the 77kWh battery in the long-range Prestige model provides a WLTP range of up to 614km. For comparison, the corresponding Ioniq 5 model had the same battery capacity but a range of 507km.

Hyundai is working with partners like Schneider Electric and mobile charging provider P.UP to support the growth in the number of EVs on Singapore roads. Hyundai Flexible Charging Credit has expanded its partnerships with 17 Charge Point Operators (CPO) to enhance customer service coverage throughout the entire island.

For Singaporeans living in private estates, Hyundai and Schneider Electric will offer a three-year product warranty with the purchase of the latest home charger that comes with an extended cable length.

P.UP will provide five charges a month, for up to one year to Hyundai Ioniq 5 and 6 customers. It will also provide complimentary 12 months emergency rescue service, with emergency charging, 12V battery replacement, and towing for up to two times per year.
