If you’ve been happily using Google’s AI platform Gemini on Chrome or your smartphone, then get ready for a deluge of AI over more Android-based devices.
Announced in a blog post, Google revealed plans to put Gemini at the centre of all things Android. Guemmy Kim, Senior Director of Product and User Experience, Android, said:
We’re expanding Gemini way beyond phones, bringing a truly smart and helpful assistant to all your devices. Whether you are on a run, in the car or even on the couch, Gemini is ready to help you.
Get a working assistant on your Google Watch

According to Kim, over the next few months, we will see Google bringing Gemini to your Wear OS smartwatch, meaning you’ll have a voice-ready device on your wrist for the times when you’re busy or just need that voice activated option. Handily, you simply need to talk naturally, without needing to use any jargon or use your thumbs to type awkwardly on a tiny display.
Gemini can set reminders for you as well. For example, if you’re at school, you can use Gemini to set a reminder about your locker number without using your smartphone. Simply tell your smartwatch, “Remember I’m using locker 43 today,” and it will.
Gemini can also connect to your apps and work seamlessly between them, so you can ask it directions to the restaurant your friend emailed you about, and get the answer right on your wrist.
Getting more than a navigation assistant

Building on the hands-free voice commands of Google Assistant, which is at the core of Android Auto, Gemini can add context to your commands, making sense of your natural conversation. For example, Gemini knows that you drive an EV, so in addition to giving you the best route to your destination, Gemini can also find you a charging station on the way that’s also near a park, so that you can go for a walk before your errands while your car is charging.
Like it does on your smartwatch, Gemini can connect to your messaging app and summarise messages you receive, and even translate your reply into another language before replying.
A smarter Smart TV?

With Gemini on Google TV, you can ask for more than simple entertainment recommendations, Kim said. For example, you can ask it for action movies that are age-appropriate for your kids, or it can even help your kids learn by pulling up the correct YouTube video to answer any questions they have.
Getting XR ready
When Samsung releases its XR headset you can try Android XR. Photo: Google.
When Samsung launches its headset based on Android XR, it will come with Gemini installed. Android XR is a new platform that Google is building in collaboration with Samsung for extended reality devices that use these technologies, like headsets and glasses. With it, Kim said that users can do tasks like plan a vacation by surrounding themselves with videos, maps and local tips, to draw inspiration and get a feel for the place you plan to visit as you do your research.
Unfortunately, Kim couldn’t provide a firm timeline for the rollout, so we’ll have to wait to hear more from Google. We will update this article with more information when we receive it.
