Software updates are coming to the AirPods.
Alongside major iOS updates, software updates are also coming to AirPods this coming fall.
Voiceless interactions with Siri
Unfortunately, most of these features will only be available on the Airpods Pro 2nd generation
There is no need to vocally reply to Siri now with a brand new “Siri Interactions” feature for the AirPods Pro 2nd generation (Lightning) and the USB-C version. The feature allows users to privately respond to Siri queries with just a simple head nod or shake. - Now, you don’t have to say “Hey Siri,” every time you use the voice assistant. Powered by machine learning on the 2nd generation AirPods Pro's H2 chip, Siri interactions enable voice-free control for answering calls, managing notifications, and more.
Voice Isolation
Another key new feature is Voice Isolation for the AirPods Pro 2nd generation. Through machine learning, voice isolation can enhance the caller’s voice and reduce background noise, such as wind or construction noise, so you can have clear calls in any environment. This adds another feather in the Apple AirPods Pro's hat of capabilities like Noise Cancellation and Adaptive Transparency for sounds heard through the earbuds while Voice Isolation works on what your caller will hear.
Personalised Spatial Audio
Previously limited to music/video, Personalised Spatial Audio with Dynamic Head Tracking will now extend to gaming as well. This will apply to the AirPods Pro 2nd generation, AirPods 3rd Gen, and the AirPods Max. Furthermore, AirPods Pro will also gain ultra-low wireless audio latency optimised for mobile gaming.
Other enhancements include improved 16-bit/48kHz voice quality for multiplayer chat and a new developer API for advanced spatial audio implementation in games.
Availability
The AirPods software updates will roll out for free this fall, with Siri Interactions, Voice Isolation and voice quality upgrades exclusive to the new AirPods Pro 2nd generation model. Developers can access the beta firmware today.
