Samsung's smart speaker could offer more features than the Apple HomePod speaker.
Samsung's upcoming smart speaker is said to be quite feature-packed according to sources of SamMobile.
According to SamMobile, the Bixby-powered smart speaker is codenamed Lux. The speaker also has a touch screen display with gesture-based functionality for double-tapping to zoom or flicking to scroll through a playlist.
The setting up process will require the user to choose his/her preferred music service. Similar to Google Home, the user can play audio on multiple Bixby-powered smart speakers simultaneously in different rooms at different volumes.
Samsung is said to be building a feature for the user to change the direction in which the sound is being played. The smart speaker may carry out a set of actions if it detects the user leaving or entering the room via the connection/disconnection from the same Wi-Fi network.
Like most smart speakers, the user can wake the speaker up by saying "Hi Bixby". The smart speaker will offer the user an option whether to lock it to his/her voice to prevent others from using it. Another feature is the ability to make calls by connecting to the paired phone over Bluetooth. The user can manage the smart speaker through Samsung's SmartThings app.
SamMobile has no specific information on the launch date for the smart speaker, but Bloomberg reported in December 2017 that it could arrive as early as the first half of this year.
