Sennheiser usually has something to show off at CES 2024 and this year it's their new flagship-class Momentum True Wireless 4 earbuds.
These come in a new Black Copper colourway, as well as the more typical Graphite and Metallic Silver. And though these look visually similar to its predecessor, Sennheiser says the ear tips and nozzle have been tweaked to offer better wearing comfort and protection from ear wax.
Like any other flagship-class earbuds worth their salt, the Momentum True Wireless 4 earbuds feature technologies like adaptive noise cancellation and app control. Notably missing, however, is support for spatial audio technologies like Dolby Atmos.
The big news is on the connectivity front. These earbuds are built on Qualcomm's S5 Sound Gen 2 platform and support Bluetooth 5.4, Auracast, and Qualcomm's aptX Lossless codec.
aptX Lossless claims to deliver "bit-perfect" music and this might sway listeners who are fussy about how their music is being wirelessly transmitted to their earbuds.
The problem, however, is that aptX Lossless requires a compatible client device and that's quite a small list at the moment.
Battery life is competitive at up to 7.5 hours from a single charge and up to 30 hours with the charging case. The charging case supports Qi wireless charging and can also be powered up via USB-C.
Sennheiser has always banked on its sound quality to stand out from its competitors and the Momentum True Wireless 4 earbuds are no different. The company's decision to support aptX Lossless and not embrace spatial audio suggests they are going after more traditional audiophiles and it will be intriguing to see how the market will respond. We will definitely be keeping close tabs on these earbuds.
