Samsung has finally launched updates to it’s The Premiere projector that was launched way back in 2020.

Back then we were wowed by the 4K ultra-short-throw laser projector with a lamp life of over 20,000 hours. Available in two models (the LSP7T and LSP9T respectively), they were capable of a peak brightness of 2,200 ANSI lumens and 2,800 ANSI lumens, 83% and 147% DCI-P3 gamut coverage, and displaying a screen size of 120- and 130 inches.

The new models, The Premiere 9 and The Premiere 7 support HDR10+, and have a maximum brightness of 3,450 ISO lumens and 2,500 ISO lumens respectively. This brightness level is based on the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) standards and according to Samsung is approximately 23% and 14% brighter over the previous models. No mention was made of Dolby Vision support though. There is also colour gamut coverage of 154% for The Premiere 9 and 100% of the DCI-P3 standard for The Premiere 7. The screen sizes are the same as their predecessors.

The difference between The Premiere 9 and The Premiere 7 lies primarily in the laser technology used. The Premiere 9 uses a Smart Triple Laser technology, while The Premiere 7 has Smart Laser technology. The main difference between the two lies in colour accuracy. Triple laser technology can produce more accurate and vibrant image than single laser due to their ability to produce the primary colours directly.

In these days of AI, it is hard to escape AI enhancements, and with The Premiere 9 and The Premiere 7 it comes in the form of AI Upscaling and Vision Booster. Samsung says that AI Upscaling ensures that content is displayed in 4K resolution, regardless of its original quality, while Vision Booster automatically adjusts brightness and contrast in various lighting conditions for optimal picture quality.

For audio, both models come with Dolby Atmos support, with The Premiere 9 featuring 40W 2.2.2 channel up-firing speakers, while The Premiere 7 has 30W 2.2ch speakers.

Like their predecessors, The Premiere 9 and The Premiere 7 come with Samsung Tizen OS Home. This gives a user access to streaming services like Samsung TV Plus (may not be available in Singapore), Netflix, YouTube, Amazon Prime Video and more, as well as being able to share content from their smartphones to the big screen with Tap View and Mirroring, while embedded voice assistant support allows easy control of the projector and other connected devices with simple voice commands.

The projectors also come with Samsung’s own technology enhancements. For those who love gaming, there is the Samsung Gaming Hub where users can enjoy games without the need for a console by accessing cloud-based games directly through the projector. Do note that this service may not be available in Singapore. You can create your own mood videos from your memories to play via the projectors using Custom Ambient. Users can combine photos, videos and widgets freely via the SmartThings app on their smartphones. Samsung’s SmartThings app also allows users to manage other Samsung smart home devices from the projector.
