Samsung's mobile president D.J. Koh has confirmed in an interview with CNBC that the company is indeed working on a smart speaker to rival Apple's upcoming HomePod and Amazon's Echo.
Koh said, "Maybe soon we will announce it. I am already working on it."
In addition, he also said that he wanted to provide users with a "fruitful user experience" with other Samsung devices.
The decision to make a smart speaker that would control and interact with other home appliances make sense since Samsung is one of the world's largest manufacturers of home appliances like TVs, refrigerators, and washing machines.
Unfortunately, Koh did not reveal details about how the speaker would look like or whether it will be powered by Bixby, Samsung's own virtual assistant.
