Fans of the Marshall Kilburn series will be happy to learn that the company has just announced the latest addition to its portable speaker lineup with the launch of the Kilburn III. The latest version offers improved sound performance, significantly longer battery life, and Auracast support.

The Kilburn III retains the retro aesthetic that Marshall's portable speakers are known for. But under the hood, it features a re-engineered audio system that consists of one 4-inch woofer and two 2-inch full-range drivers. Together, the system has a frequency range of 45Hz to 20kHz. These are powered by three Class D amplifiers, delivering a combined power rating of 90 watts (more than double the 36-watt output of its predecessor).

Similar to its predecessor, the Kilburn III retains Marshall’s True Stereophonic sound technology, offering 360° omnidirectional audio for consistent sound quality from any angle. Weighing a tad heavier at 2.8 kg, the Kilburn III remains portable and includes a guitar strap-style handle, which can be removed or reattached using guitar strap buttons. Its upgraded IP54 rating also ensures protection against dust and splashes, making it suitable for both indoor and outdoor use.

The big news, however, is the Kilburn III's much longer battery life. Marshall claims it will last over 50 hours, which means you could feasibly play music for two days on end. What's more, this is more than double its predecessor's battery life, which was rated at over 20 hours.

Connectivity is provided via Bluetooth 5.1 and supported codecs are SBC, AAC, and LC3. Users can customise sound profiles through tactile knobs for bass, treble, and volume. Finally, as mentioned, the Kilburn III will support Auracast, a Bluetooth SIG-developed technology that allows separate audio products to playback and broadcast from the same source.

An M-button allows quick access to preset sound profiles, while the Dynamic Loudness feature automatically adjusts tonal balance across different volume levels. Finally, the Kilburn III also doubles as a power bank, enabling users to charge their mobile devices through its USB-C port.'

All things considered, it looks like Marshall has improved its Kilburn speaker in ways that will likely have the biggest impact on customer satisfaction. The improved drivers are much welcomed, but the most impressive thing is how they more than doubled battery life.
