You know that LG Electronics is banking on 4K TVs and OLED TVs for its future growth, but do you know that the company also has its sights set on being a big projector player?

While the global projector market is now being dominated by the likes of Epson and Sony, the Korean company thinks it stands a chance if it focuses on projectors using LED light sources. To those unaware, while LED projectors aren’t new, most projectors sold today are still using mercury-containing lamps as their light source. Besides requiring little maintenance, LED light sources last significantly longer than these conventional lamps, are more eco-friendly, and the projectors can be designed to be very small and portable.

Knowing that it wouldn’t be easy to crack the B2B (business-to-business) market, LG intends to target the B2C (business-to-consumer) market instead. The company thinks that there are consumers who would be interested in a portable, battery-powered LED projector that they can bring out and about, or as a cheaper alternative to a big-screen TV at home.
