When the JBL Tour Pro 2 was released, it was impossible to talk about it without mentioning its charging case because it had a display on it. Now, JBL has a new version called the Tour Pro 3 that packs an even larger display and many more features to keep it competitive against other flagship-class earbuds.

We begin with the display on the case, which is slightly larger at 1.57 inches (vs. the Tour Pro 2’s 1.45 inches). The screen’s functionality is largely unchanged, so you can use it to control playback, switch listening modes, check the battery levels, and more.

The case, however, has some added capabilities. It can now function as a transmitter, so you can plug the case into USB-C or 3.5mm sources and listen to them on the earbuds. This is especially handy when flying since most in-flight entertainment systems lack Bluetooth functionality.

The earbuds themselves have an all-new dual-driver configuration that consists of a 10mm dynamic driver and a balanced armature. They feature True Adaptive Noise Cancelling 2.0 – JBL’s latest ANC algorithm – and support spatial audio with head tracking.

To further improve sound quality, the Tour Pro 3 features an adaptive EQ function called Personi-fi 3.0, which measures your ears and creates a customised sound profile to ensure the drivers meet their target frequency response.

The Tour Pro 3 supports Bluetooth 5.3 LE and supported codecs include SBC, AAC, LDAC, and LC3. A future firmware update will add support for Auracast as well, a relatively new Bluetooth technology that lets these earbuds connect to Auracast broadcasting devices and enables some interesting use cases.

Claimed battery life is up to 8 hours on a single charge with ANC on, with the charging case providing another three charges for a maximum total playing time of up to 32 hours. This easily makes it one of the longest-lasting earbuds.

On paper, the Tour Pro 3 looks like a very complete set of high-end earbuds. The new dual-driver configuration promises better sound quality, and it comes with a load of new features. Stay tuned, we hope to review these earbuds soon.
