The JBL Jr kids headphones are compact, colorful, and will limit the volume to protect the child’s hearing

Volume is limited to 85dB to minimize the chance of noise-induced hearing loss.

Harman International, which is owned by Samsung Electronics, has launched JBL’s first line of kids headphones called the JBL Jr.

First seen at IFA, the new JR300 kids on-ear headphones are designed for children ages three to ten, and they sport a soft padded headband and cushioned ear cups. They are also compact and can be folded for ease of portability. Two versions of the JR300 are available: the regular JR300 is the wired version and sports a 1 meter flat cable (3.5mm audio plug), while the JR300BT is Bluetooth enabled and has an internal rechargeable battery that lasts up to 12 hours on a single charge (JBL says a 10-minute charge gets you an hour of use).

Since these are kids headphones, to protect hearing, both JR300 models will limit the volume to a maximum of 85dB. This is handled electronically and can’t be overriden. To give you an idea, a typical conversation is about 60dB and a clap of thunder 120dB. (Concerned parents, here’s more info about noise-induced hearing loss.)

The S$49.90 JR300 is available in Spider Red and Ice Blue color options, while the S$79.90 JR300BT comes in Punky Pink, Rocker Blue, and Tropic Teal. Each of them also comes with a sticker set to let the child personalize the headset. Both headphone are now in stores.

The wired version of the JR300 is the more affordable of the two.
