Coming soon: Smart speakers from IKEA

The Swedish furniture giant is said to be working with Sonos on the line-up.

What Hi-Fi? reports that IKEA’s collaboration with Sonos will soon bear fruit by way of a new line of smart speakers. First announced at the end of 2017, the first product is a Wi-Fi speaker called Symfonisk, and this is said to be easy to integrate with your home furnishings by way of wall brackets that allow you to use it as a shelf.

Looking at the teaser video on their website, the Symfonisk will likely be a smart speaker that works seamlessly with Sonos speakers, but at the lower price you’d expect from IKEA’s range of affordable products. Given that the video ends off stating that the speakers will be available at IKEA from August 2019, it seems we won’t have that much longer to wait.

IKEA has already released wireless Qi-chargers and smart lighting, with a set of smart blinds set to come later this year, so a lower-priced speaker that works with the Sonos ecosystem is certainly not out of the question.

Hopefully these make it to Singapore!
