DJI has just announced the launch of the DJI Mic 3, its latest wireless microphone system designed to deliver professional-grade audio in a compact package. Building on the success of the DJI Mic 2 (read our review here), the Mic 3 introduces several firsts for the series, including adaptive gain control, dual-file 32-bit float internal recording, and expanded connectivity to simplify group recordings.

The most obvious difference between the Mic 2 and the newer Mic 3 is the size of their transmitters. Each transmitter now weighs 16g, making it smaller and lighter than its predecessor. Users can wear it using a magnetic or clip-on attachment, and optional windscreen covers are available in five colours to suit different shooting environments or outfits. The included all-in-one charging case neatly holds two transmitters and one receiver, along with magnets and locking cables for easy storage after use.

The Mic 3 introduces Adaptive Gain Control for the first time in the DJI Mic series. Its Automatic mode suppresses sudden volume spikes in dynamic outdoor environments, while Dynamic mode maintains consistent audio levels in quieter indoor settings. Three voice tone presets: Regular, Rich, and Bright, enhance vocal clarity for interviews or multi-speaker setups. Meanwhile, two-level active noise cancelling, combined with the windscreen, should ensure clean audio.

The system records audio at 48 kHz and 24-bit resolution and supports dual-file internal recording in both 24-bit and 32-bit float formats. This provides a safeguard against clipping or interference by storing both original and processed audio tracks.

As mentioned, the Mic 3 now supports connectivity of up to four transmitters and eight receivers at the same time, allowing for group recordings and multi-camera setups. When paired with select Sony cameras or software, the system’s Quadraphonic mode outputs four independent audio tracks to a single device to streamline post-production.

If you’re an owner of other DJI products, the Mic 3 works along with DJI’s OsmoAudio ecosystem, including the Osmo 360, Osmo Action 5 Pro, Osmo Action 4, and Osmo Pocket 3. For other devices, the Mic 3 can connect via 3.5 mm TRS and TRRS ports, USB-C, and Bluetooth.

Finally, the battery life. Transmitters last up to eight hours, receivers up to ten hours, and the charging case offers an additional 28 hours of extended use. A five-minute quick charge provides two hours of power, while a full charge claims to just take 50 minutes.
