Some of the new filters in action
As Microsoft and Google step up their game and launch improvements to their video conferencing tools, Zoom is releasing an upgrade that increases attendee interaction to stay ahead.
The new features seem to take their cue from many of the short video sharing apps like TikTok and SnapChat where users can take a video and use filters or add on effects like bunny ears or use the app to smoothen their skin and beautify themselves.
But admins will still have final say on the use during meetings.
Bring some laughter to meetings
Bring laughter to what you do
For students or those in less formal environments, use filters to amuse your fellow attendees by adding unicorn horns or wearing a pirate eye patch, to your on-screen image.
Use colour filters and turn your video into a black-and-white photo or change the colours around you to suit your mood and fill every inch of the screen.
Control the brightness and noise
Look perfect with the right lighting
Worried how you’ll look for that call first thing in the morning? Take granular control over the intensity of your touch-ups and lighting adjustment, so you’re well-lit in any lighting. Change the brightness of your panel and amount of skin smoothing look at your best no matter what time you have a call.
You can touch up your appearance if you feel you look bad
Barking dogs, a whirring fan, and your kids playing in the background nearly disappear with Zoom’s improved background noise suppression. At the low setting, soft background music can complement a yoga class or game night. The high suppression feature gives you distraction-free audio for important meetings and presentations so you can sound your best.

Give them a “thumbs up”!
Let the presenters know what you think of how they're doing with emojis
Like popular chat apps, you can now add emojis and reactions in as you listen to presentations. Click on the Reactions button and share how you’re feeling in the moment like laughter or just a heart.
Change the way you present
Be like a newscaster as you present
You can now present your slides like you are using them over your very own ‘green screen’. Share your PowerPoint or Keynote presentations as a virtual background and you can overlay your video on the slides like you’re presenting the news. Your video can also be resized and moved to suit your messaging.
Upgrade to use
To access the new features, users need to upgrade to the latest version of Zoom, which is 5.2. But admins who want to limit the new functionality can still disable meeting filters at the account, group, and user levels in the Zoom web portal.
