Google is bringing three new features to its video conferencing app.

Humberto Castaneda, Product Manager of Google Duo, wrote in a blog post that users can soon make group calls with Duo on the web. This will start as a preview on Chrome alongside a new layout to let users see more people at the same time. Users can also invite anyone with a Google account to join the group call with a link.

In additon, Google Duo now supports family mode. This mode allows users to doodle on video calls with fun effects and masks. Family mode is available when signed into Duo with a Google account. These fun effects and masks will also be available in one-on-one video calls on Android and iOS from this week.

Google Duo has been receiving features upgrades as more people turn to video conferencing apps and platforms to keep in touch during the Covid-19 pandemic. It is rolling out a new video codec technology to improve video call quality and reliability. Group call size will be increased from 12 participants to even more in the coming weeks.
