Dark mode for WhatsApp is finally here after a long testing period with a beta version.
The company revealed that it spent time researching and experimenting with a focus on two particular areas: readability and information hierarchy.
It specifically chose colours that are closer to the system defaults on iPhone and Android respectively to reduce eye fatigue. Other design elements are also adopted to make sure the most important information stands out.
For Android 10 and iOS 13 users, Dark mode for WhatsApp is automatically enabled via the device's system settings. Android 9 and below users have to go into WhatsApp settings > Chats > Themes > select "Dark".
