Windows Terminal has been updated and its user experience has been improved vastly. It brings support for traditional command-line tools and shells that include Command Prompt, PowerShell and Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL).
Since May this year, the revamped command line application’s source code is available on GitHub for developers and power users. Its current preview release on Microsoft Store makes it easier for others to enjoy its updated UX.

Windows Terminal supports multiple tabs, i.e., no more multiple Windows Terminal windows, and each tab is able to connect to a shell or application of the user’s choice.

Under its hood, there’s a GPU-accelerated DirectWrite/DirectX-based text rendering engine. It will display text characters, glyphs and symbols that include CJK ideograms, emoji, and powerline symbols.

For a truly personal UX experience, power users can edit the app’s JSON file via a JSON text editor of choice. Each JSON profile can be configured to the user’s liking and Windows Terminal will refresh in an instant to reflect the new updates.
According to its developers, they aim to release the first stable version, i.e., Windows Terminal 1.0 soon, and continue to work on its new features that are already in the pipeline. They have even released a slick promotional video that should even get non-power users all excited.
