Twitter said to be interested in acquiring TikTok

Twitter and TikTok are said to have held preliminary talks about a possible acquisition.

Besides Microsoft, Twitter is also said to be interested in acquiring TikTok.

People familiar with the matter told The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) that Twitter has had preliminary talks about a potential combination with TikTok. While it is unclear whether Twitter will pursue a deal with TikTok, sources say the deal would involve TikTok's U.S business.

While Microsoft is believed to be the "front-runner" to acquire TikTok, Twitter is expected to be a long-shot contender as its smaller size is less likely to raise anti-trust concerns. Microsoft has officially confirmed its interest in acquiring TikTok's U.S operations, but the Financial Times claimed that Microsoft is considering to acquire its global business. Microsoft's co-founder Bill Gates feels the potential deal is "a poison chalice".
