Global TikTok downloads hit 3-year high with average daily downloads of 2.7M

TikTok's global quarterly downloads for Q2 2023 hit a record high figure! #tiktok #socialmedia

The popularity of TikTok is not waning anytime soon as the company hit a three-year high for global downloads in Q2 this year.

Based on data acquired and calculated by Finbold, TikTok's global quarterly downloads registered the highest figure in the past three years at 260.8 million downloads.

To put this figure into perspective, this means there was an average of 2.7 million daily downloads since the start of the year. This translates to a year-over-year growth of 17.86% compared to Q2 2022. For the first half of 2023, TikTok had a total of 503.52 million downloads!

TikTok started to gain popularity during the Covid-19 pandemic due to its vertical, short-form video feed. While there were fluctuations over the past three years, it is impressive that TikTok was able to rebound despite rival social media platforms releasing similar features such as Instagram Reels and YouTube Shorts. Finbold also credited the success of TikTok to its huge base of content creators.

However, there is a growing number of countries joining the U.S in questioning TikTok over data privacy, content moderation and misinformation. Some countries like Britain, Canada and New Zealand have banned the app on official devices. If this momentum continues, it could hinder TikTok's future growth.
