Just as predicted by renowned music business analyst Mark Mulligan, Apple has to do a lot more if it wants to catch up with Spotify in the music streaming business. Spotify CEO Daniel Ek tweeted that the music streaming service now has 30 million paid subscribers.
To put that number into context, Spotify announced days before the launch of Apple Music last June that it had 20 million subscribers. This means that Spotify managed to grow its subscriber base in the nine months after the launch of Apple Music. Based on its subscriber base in the past two years, Spotify appears to be adding an average 10 million paid subscribers per year.
On the other hand, Apple revealed last month that its music streaming service has about 11 million paid subscribers. If both music streaming services maintain their growth rate, it will take a lot of work for Apple to overtake Spotify.
