Samsung's voice assistant Bixby is set to be updated with generative AI features.
Won-joon Choi, executive vice president of Samsung Mobile, shared in an interview with CNBC last month that the company is looking to "redefine the role of Bixby" and equip the voice assistant with generative AI to be smarter.
While Choi did not specify a timeline on when Bixby would be upgraded with generative AI features, he states that the company is "working so hard" on it.
Samsung Bixby launched in 2017 alongside the Galaxy S8. It was designed to be the gateway for a Samsung-connected home ecosystem with the smartphone doubling as a hub.
With the recent launch of Galaxy AI on the Galaxy S24 series and the buzz around generative AI, it's little wonder that Samsung is trying to rejuvenate Bixby and make it relevant in an era of advanced digital assistants and chatbots.
