Opera introduces a new power-saving mode within the developer’s version of Opera 39. This power-saving feature is targeted at helping laptop users extend their battery life while web-surfing.
The power-saving mode can be found in the Opera browser. When a laptop user unplugs their power cable, there will be a battery icon appearing next to Opera browser’s search and address bar. Clicking the Opera’s battery icon will start power-saving mode. The browser is also able to tell if your laptop’s battery is low, and it will suggest enabling power-saving mode.
According to Opera, their latest developer’s version browser can run up to nearly 50 percent longer when compared to running Google Chrome. This is dependent on the laptop’s hardware. Other under-the-hood upgrades for the Opera browser include reduced activity in background tabs, optimized scheduling of Javascript timers which in turn wakes the CPU less often, and automatic pausing of inactive plug-ins.
Besides adding a power-saving mode in this update, Opera also improved their browser VPN by allowing users to use their VPN mode in Private Browsing mode.
