OpenAI may be setting its sights on the social media space.
Sources familiar with the matter told The Verge that OpenAI is working on an X-like social network. The internal prototype, which is still in its early stages, reportedly has a social feed with ChatGPT's image generation tool.
Additionally, the company is believed to be seeking feedback from outsiders through private channels. It remains to be seen if OpenAI will enter the social media space with a dedicated app or integrate it in some way into ChatGPT.
Competition in the social media space is heating up with platforms that feature integrated AI chatbots. Meta launched a standalone AI assistant in 2023 that's already integrated across Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and Messenger. X, formerly known as Twitter, works with xAI's Grok chatbot.
