Edgybees’s new AR app – Drone Prix – uses DJI’s Mobile SDK to create a virtual obstacle course for your drone, letting you put your piloting skills to the test as you weave over, under, and through obstacles while trying to pick up coins and prizes scattered throughout the course. Race against the clock to beat your previous score, or compete against other users from across the world.
As you can see in the video below, what you’ll see on your smart phone is a virtual course with obstacles and rewards. Over 30 different courses of varying difficulties are available in the app, and you can link your user ID to your Facebook account to easily share your achievements as you progress. For beginners, a track guiding feature is also available to help assist you as you navigate your way around the course.
More than 30 arenas are available to choose from.
As Menashe Haskin, Edgybees CTO & Co-Founder says, “In contrast with flight simulators, Drone Prix AR provides a much more immersive experience that combines virtual obstacles with real-life piloting skills. DJI’s mobile SDK allowed us to bring our idea to life very quickly and we are really excited to see how this app will change the way people experience flying a drone.”
While you won’t need a specific race course to use the app, you will still need to have a compatible DJI drone with video camera, as the game uses the drone’s camera for operation. The app is said to be compatible with Phantom 3, the Phantom 4 and the Mavic Pro, and is available now for free on the Apple app store. Android version is said to be coming soon.
