Mozilla Ends Development of Firefox 64-bit for Windows on a Quiet Note
Mozilla has quietly ended its development of Firefox 64-bit for Windows. There were a number of reasons given by the project manager that included the scarcity of plug-ins in 64-bit version, stability issues with the 64-bit builds as well as a general sense of mediocrity among users and testers.
Mozilla has quietly ended its development of Firefox 64-bit for Windows. There were a number of reasons given by the project manager that included the scarcity of plug-ins in 64-bit version, stability issues with the 64-bit builds as well as a general sense of mediocrity among users and testers.

In a Google Groups discussion, managing engineer, Mr. Benjamin Smedberg requested developers stop development on the project's nightly builds of its 64-bit Windows distribution. He also stated that due to the lack of attention paid to those bugs specific to the Firefox 64-bit for Windows, it would frustrate the beta testers and developers alike. On a lighter note, it appears that the Linux build of Firefox 64-bit has been spared the axe.
The sudden decision to can the Windows 64-bit version of the Firefox browser left its supporters disappointed; however, there are other mainstream 64-bit alternatives like Internet Explorer and Opera. For Chrome users on Windows platform, they are still limited to the 32-bit Google Chrome browser as it is not offered as 64-bit Windows application.
