Web browsing can be surprisingly resource intensive. Especially if you are the kind that opens a ton of tabs and rely on web apps. Fortunately, a startup called Mighty has a solution.
Instead of running the browser on your web, Mighty is proposing that you run the browser on their powerful computers and then it will stream the results to your screen.
If this sounds familiar, that's because that's exactly how game streaming services like Google Stadia and GeForce Now work.
In doing so, Mighty is saying your websites will load more quickly, your web apps will run more smoothly, and you'll get all this without sacrificing CPU resources, memory, and battery.
Each Mighty browser is powered by 4GHz Xeon processors with 16GB of memory and NVIDIA discrete graphics. Mighty also claims to provide a 1Gbps connection to the web. But of course, performance is still limited by the speeds of your own connection to the internet.
Security is understandably a concern, but Mighty is claiming all data is encrypted, keystrokes aren't logged, and that it'll wipe all of your browsing data after each session.
One potential stumbling block is the price. Mighty is asking for US$30 per month, which works out to be slightly under a dollar a day. While that doesn't sound too bad, it remains to be seen how many people will want to pay for something as basic as web browsing.
