Microsoft recently announced several new Teams experiences for Education, one of which includes an expansion of the grid view.
Coming to a preview this month with general availability in fall, Microsoft Teams will have an expanded grid view of 7x7 which allows it to accommodate up to 49 video call participants at the same time on a single screen. Microsoft Teams currently supports up to 9 participants in a 3x3 grid view.
When the feature is rolled out in fall, Microsoft Teams will match Zoom's offering. Microsoft Teams is also ahead of Google Meet, which currently supports up to 16 video call participants in a 4x4 grid. In terms of maximum number of video call participants, Zoom is still leading the pack with 500 followed by 250 for Microsoft Teams and 100 for Google Meet.
Other new Teams experience include the ability to create virtual Breakout Rooms for students to collaborate in smaller groups, a "Raise their Hands" options for students to participate in class meetings, Attendance Reports and Class Insights.
