According to numerous reports, Microsoft has just acquired calendar app Sunrise for at least US$100 million. The Sunrise calendar app is one of the highest rated third-party calendar app for both iOS and Android.

Under new CEO Satya Nadella, Microsoft has shown that it is not afraid to invest in rival platforms. Just last December, Microsoft also acquired iOS email app Accompli for US$200 million.

Reports say that Microsoft will keep Sunrise apps alive and as standalone products, but it will seek to use its technologies for its own future products, like what it did with Accompli.
