Apple has updated Logic Pro with a couple of new features that will be available on both the Mac and iPad versions.

To begin, the Stem Splitter feature (which was introduced last year) has been improved so it can now isolate and extract guitar and piano stems. Apple also says the extraction is better so users can expect better audio quality.

To recap, Stem Splitter was introduced last year and uses AI to analyse a track and then split its instruments into separate tracks (called stems). This can be handy for remixing songs.

Another new feature worth highlighting is Flashback Capture, which lets you recall a performance even if you forgot to hit the record button. This works for both MIDI and audio performances. If you enable “Cycle mode” it’ll even work for multiple takes, with each take organised into its own individual folder.

Finally, there are new sound packs. Dancefloor Rush is a drum-and-bass sound pack that is available for both Mac and iPad. Mac users will get a further two sound packs called Magnetic Imperfections and Tosin Abasi. The former supposedly “captures the raw, unpolished essence of analog tape”, while the latter features guitar sounds recorded by Tosin Abasi, the lead guitarist of the band Animals as Leaders.

Availability and pricing

These new features will be available as part of the Logic Pro 11.2 update for Mac and the Logic Pro 2.2 update for iPad. Both updates are available now and are free for existing users.

Logic Pro for Mac costs S$299.98, while Logic Pro for iPad is S$6.98 per month or S$69 per year. You can find out more about Logic Pro for Mac here, and Logic Pro for iPad here.
