Kandao Raw+ is a free tool that claims to reduce noise and expand dynamic range

The image-stitching software uses computational photography techniques to give you better images.

Kandao may be better known for their 360o cameras, but they’ve recently released free software called Kandao Raw+ that uses computational photography techniques to improve the quality of images taken at low light. As they say, “It is a smart tool on computer that helps you to produce a new image with increased detail, dynamic range, and lower noise, by combining a burst shots of raw images into one.”

Noise reduction

Kandao’s approach to this is to use information from a burst of shots at faster shutter speeds (ostensibly at a lower ISO setting). By aligning and merging the shots, noise is reduced and more detail can be recovered.

Increased dynamic range

Kandao Raw+ creates a high dynamic range image without the need for varying exposure as it creates a RAW file with 16-bit color depth that allows you enough information to enhance shadows in post. Just take care of highlights!

Works with 360 cameras

Given that Kandao already has three 360 cameras available for purchase, it makes sense that Raw+ would work for 360 photos too, improving image quality by reducing image noise.

Unfortunately, there's only mention of working with Adobe's DNG format, so you'll probably need to shoot in RAW and convert your images to get started. To find out more or to get your own copy of Kandao Raw+, head to KandaoVR.com.
