It's official - Mozilla will end support for Firefox OS in May

Just recently, Mozilla announced it would stop developing Firefox OS for smartphones; now there won't be support for the OS. What's happening and what is Mozilla up to?

Earlier in December 2015, Mozilla confirmed that it would stop developing Firefox OS smartphones. Now, it has officially confirmed that there will be no support for the Firefox OS in May.

As for the MarketPlace, Mozilla states that it will stop accepting submissions for Android, Desktop and Tablet. It will also remove all apps that do not support Firefox OS and continue to accept Firefox OS apps till 2017.

Mozilla decided to stop development of Firefox OS so that it can focus its resources on bringing the power of web to Internet of Things. The failure of Firefox OS less than three years after its debut highlights how competitive the smartphone market is with Apple iOS and Google Android dominating the scene.
