Google announced that its next I/O developer conference will happen later this year on 20 and 21 May.

Like the past I/O conferences, this year’s I/O will be a mix of in-person events and online livestreams and sessions. There will be a live-streamed keynote at the Shoreline Amphitheatre near Google’s Campus in Mountain View, California.

Interestingly, this year’s I/O will take place at the same time as Microsoft’s Build conference. Microsoft announced earlier this month that its Build conference will be held between 19 and 22 May at the Seattle Convention Center.

Expect this year’s I/O to be heavily focused on AI, and also expect Google to announce updates to Android. We could also hear more about Android XR – Google's new OS for extended reality devices.

Last year's Google I/O took place on 14 May 2024 and you can catch up on what went down in our handy round-up article here.
