Google just announced that it has acquired parts of HTC's Vive business.

In a blog post, Google stated that it "signed an agreement to welcome some of the HTC Vive engineering team". Google added that it is looking forward to working with the engineering team to accelerate the development of the Android XR platform across the headsets and glasses ecosystem.

The Android XR was announced last month and it is Google's OS for augmented reality, virtual reality, and mixed reality headsets. Android XR was also developed in collaboration with Samsung and Qualcomm.

The deal between Google and HTC Vive is reportedly worth $250 million. This comes almost 8 years after Google acquired HTC's smartphone division to further develop its Pixel phones.
