Google just announced that it will launch Android 16 earlier next year.
Matthew McCullough, the vice president of product management at Android Developer, revealed in a blog post that Android 16 will be released in Q2 2025.
McCullough said in his post:
We’re planning the major release for Q2 rather than Q3 to better align with the schedule of device launches across our ecosystem, so more devices can get the major release of Android sooner.
If we look at the past five Android OS releases, they have typically rolled out between August (for Android 13) and October (Android 14 and Android 12).
There will also be a minor release in Q4 which includes "feature updates, optimisations, and bug fixes". Both releases in Q2 and Q4 will come with new developer APIs.
