Fall detection feature of Apple Watch Series 4 is disabled by default

You have to manually enable the fall detection feature on the Apple Watch Series 4.

One of the key features on the Apple Watch Series 4 is fall detection where it relies on the new accelerometer and gyroscope. If you recently bought this model, it’s important to note that the fall detection feature is disabled by default.

According to Apple’s support document, the fall detection feature is automatically enabled when the user sets his/her age on the Apple Watch or Health app as over 65 years old.

If you are not over the age of 65 years old, you have to manually enable the feature in the Emergency SOS section of the Apple Watch app.

The fall detection algorithms are based on data gathered from thousands of people over a period of time. However, it won't detect all falls and may even have false positives.
