Facebook has announced Paper, the company’s new content reader application. This first product from the Facebook Creative Labs allows content from your Facebook News Feed to be presented in a new UI. In addition, excerpts of news articles from Time and other well-known publications are included.

The first section of Paper is from your Facebook News Feed, and it will allow you to read the contents in a new format, especially for longer posts. According to the presentation video, Paper even allows side-scrolling of landscape pictures and photos in landscape mode, by simply tilting the device. Besides such user driven content, Paper also features news and articles from established publications.
This has led to direct comparisons of Paper with , a popular content aggregator software. Geektime reported that Paper will also be used by Facebook advertisers to reach out to users. These advertisers will attempt to capture eyeballs with more graphics and links as Paper is positioned as a mobile app based heavily on them. In short, Facebook’s Paper will be a mix of user-driven content, and brand advertising, with the aim of boosting user engagement and their advertising views. There were rumors in June last year that Facebook was working on its own news reader, and now the company has officially derailed early detractors with Paper, which will be available for the iPhone in the United States on 03 February.
